Kyrie Irving had to be helped off the court with a knee injury during the Dallas Mavericks' game against the Sacramento Kings.
Kyrie Irving broke down in tears while shooting free throws for the Dallas Mavericks and left the court in pain near the end of the first quarter of his team's 122-98 loss to the Sacramento Kings.
On a dribble, Kyrie Irving was fouled by DeMar DeRozan and landed his right foot on Jonas Valanciunas's. He lost his balance, landed on his left leg, and seemingly hyperextended his knee before falling to the ground.
After the game, head coach Jason Kidd said, "I hope Kyrie Irving is healthy and it's just a minor injury." Kyrie Irving hugged his leg and lay on the ground for several minutes after the injury. One of the players who helped Kyrie Irving into the locker room was the injured Anthony Davis.
Kyrie Irving, a nine-time All-Star who is averaging 25 points per game, has become the primary outside shooting threat for the Dallas Mavericks after Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 1.
In the third quarter, Dallas Mavericks backup guard Jaden Hardy also left the game due to a sprained right ankle, and the team ended up with only nine players on the court.
