New York Post: D'Angelo Russell wants to stay with Nets next season

According to New York Post reporter Brian Lewis, Nets guard D'Angelo Russell hopes to continue playing for the team next season.

D'Angelo Russell is 29 years old and was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the second pick in the first round in 2015. He has played for the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves since 2017, and returned to the Lakers through a three-way trade in 2023. As of December 2024, when he left the team, Russell had played 84 times for the Lakers, averaging 16.6 points and 5.9 assists per game, and won an NBA championship with the team.

The Nets have not performed well this season and are currently ranked 11th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 21 wins and 40 losses. However, Russell averaged 12.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 5 assists in 47 regular season games, and his personal status is still worthy of recognition. He is also satisfied with the current situation because he has more ball rights in the Nets. According to Brian Lewis, Russell has expressed his willingness to stay with the team to those around him, and hopes to extend his contract that was originally scheduled to expire this summer.

Brian Lewis then added that the Nets do not rule out offering Russell a short-term contract during the rebuilding process. If there are no top players available for trade, it is very likely that Russell will continue to cooperate with the Nets in the short term.
