Barcelona postpones match against Osasuna due to death of team doctor

La Liga club Barcelona announced that its La Liga match against Osasuna has been postponed due to the unfortunate death of team doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia.

The two teams had already announced their starting lineups and the players had completed their warm-up, but a few minutes before the game started, Barcelona announced the postponement of the game on the radio at the Companhia Olympic Stadium. According to La Liga officials, the new date of the game will be re-determined by the Competition Committee in the next few days.


Barcelona released a statement that read: "It is with great sadness that FC Barcelona announces the tragic death of first team doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia this Saturday afternoon."


"As a result, the match between Barcelona and Osasuna will be postponed to a later date. The FC Barcelona board and all the players express their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and mourn with them at this difficult time."


Barcelona currently ranks first in La Liga with 57 points, one point ahead of Atletico Madrid in second place. Osasuna ranks 11th with 33 points.


There is no new date for the match, but Barcelona host Benfica in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 on March 12. Osasuna's next game will be on March 17, when they continue their La Liga campaign against Getafe.
