◤UEFA Champions League◢ Record-breaking Ousmane Dembélé scores and sends Paris Saint-Germain to the quarter finals with a 0-1 win over Liverpool..

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Liverpool 0-1 (aggregate score: 1-1; penalty shootout: 1-4) in the second leg of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League Round of 16s match at Anfield on Tuesday and advanced to the quarter finals.

In the first half, Dembélé scored from close range and Alisson blocked out Barcola's shot. In the second half, Szoboszlai's goal was ruled out and Quansah's header hit the post. In the penalty shootout, Salah became the only Reds player to successfully score. In the end, Liverpool lost to Paris Saint-Germain with an aggregate score of 1-1 and a penalty shootout of 1-4.

First Half

In the 4th minute, Alexis Mac Allister passes horizontally from the left side of the box. Mohamed Salah quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his left foot from the right side of the box, but his shot was blocked and went out of the byline by Nuno Mendes.

8 minutes later, Bradley Barcola passes horizontally from the right side of the box. Ousmane Dembélé quickly followed up, got the ball, dribbled past the outrushing Alisson and Ibrahima Konaté who was closely making him, and then pushed the ball into the bottom right corner of the empty net with his right foot from a very close distance in the box. Paris Saint-Germain broke the deadlock first and took an early 0-1 lead!

In the 17th minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia made a through pass from the front. After successfully beating the offside trap, Bradley Barcola quickly followed up, got the ball, dribbled and cuts into the left side of the box, before pushing the ball with his left foot against the outrushing Alisson, but his shot was blocked by the latter.

At the end of the first half, Liverpool temporarily trailed Paris Saint-Germain by 0-1 and entered the half time break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 53rd minute, Luis Díaz passes horizontally from the left side of the box. Trent Alexander-Arnold stopped the ball and adjusted his angle before taking a long shot with his right foot from the edge of the penalty area. His shot was initially saved and cleared not far away by Gianluigi Donnarumma. After quickly following up and picking up the loose ball, Alexander-Arnold made a left-footed shot from the center of the box. Unfortunately, his shot hit the bottom right corner of the post and bounced off not far away.

After picking up the loose ball again, Alexander-Arnold passes horizontally from the edge of the byline on the left side of the box. Dominik Szoboszlai quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, pushed the ball into the lower center of the net with his right foot from a very close distance in the box. However, the linesman immediately raised his flag to indicate that Díaz caught offside, so the goal was ruled out! Liverpool missed a golden opportunity to equalize Paris Saint-Germain!

4 minutes later, Díaz passes horizontally from the edge of the byline on the left side of the box. The ball was initially blocked by Mendes and cleared not far away. After quickly following up and picking up the loose ball, Szoboszlai made a right-footed shot from the center of box, but his shot was blocked by William Pacho.

In the 58th minute, Liverpool got a corner kick opportunity. Mac Allister took the corner by crossing it into the box. Luis Díaz rose high and attempted with a header in the box, however his effort was saved by Donnarumma.

In the 79th minute, Liverpool got a free kick opportunity. Andy Robertson took the free kick by crossing it into the box from outside the penalty area. Jarell Quansah quickly followed up attempted with a header in the box. Unfortunately, his effort hit the bottom left corner of the post and bounced off. Liverpool missed the golden opportunity to equalize Paris Saint-Germain again!

In the 4th minute of injury time, Achraf Hakimi passes horizontally from the right side of the box. Désiré Doué stopped the ball and adjusted his angle before volleying with his left foot from the center of the box, but his shot went just slightly wide of the left side of the post.

Extra time

In the 109th minute, Vitinha made a straight pass from the left wing. Dembélé quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before volleying with his right foot from the left side of the box, but his shot was saved by Alisson.

At the end of injury time and extra time, the aggregate score was 1-1, so the game had to go into a penalty shootout.
