Newcastle United travelled to Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final and beat Arsenal 2-0. Despite Newcastle United's victory, manager Eddie Howe still believed the game was not over yet.
The victory of this game laid a favorable foundation for Newcastle United in the second round of the Carabao Cup at home in February, and also made Newcastle United win 7 games in a row in all recent games. However, Howe did not take it lightly because of the victory, but became more cautious.
In the 2023 Carabao Cup, Howe led Newcastle United to the final, but was defeated by Manchester United and missed the first trophy since 1995. Now Newcastle United has another chance to reach the final, so the team will never miss this opportunity.
In the post-match interview, Howe said: "Today was another big step forward for us away from home. We played with a lot of confidence and belief, but as far as the game is concerned, it is still very much up in the air and we still have a very difficult home game."
Howe admitted that Arsenal had a chance to fight back in the second half of the game, but fortunately Newcastle United players worked hard to defend and saved the victory. Howe said: "We did feel tired in the second half."
"We were in control of the game at the beginning, but then we got tired and it was a test of our defensive mentality. We knew what the game meant and the players gave it their all without holding back."
