Arteta confident of Carabao Cup semi-final second leg comeback

Arsenal lost 0-2 to Newcastle United in the first round of the Carabao Cup semi-finals, and coach Mikel Arteta is convinced that the team will turn things around in the second round.

Newcastle United won the first round with goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. At the press conference after the game, Arteta said about the loss: "This is the result of the game."

"If you look at the performances of both teams and how dominant the game was, the result doesn't reflect how the game actually went. But the reality is that they were very efficient in taking advantage of their chances and we didn't."

“It was only the first leg and when I saw the performance of the team and how we responded to many situations and played against a very strong team, I must say that I had every confidence that we could come back in the second leg.”

Arsenal last lost at home in November last year, and now it is the first defeat in 13 home games. When asked by reporters if he felt he had no luck this season, Arteta replied: "No."

“Compared to last season, for example in the Premier League, we are in the same position. Although we were knocked out early in the Carabao Cup last season, we are in a better position considering everything that happened.

"I don't want to use luck as an excuse because the team is still performing well and competing with the strongest teams. We are one of the best teams right now and have made many better performances, so there is no time to discuss this."

The second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final will be held on February 6. Before that, Arsenal still has many games, including 4 Premier League games, 1 FA Cup and 2 Champions League games.
