Ange Postecoglu happy about Son Heung-min's contract extension

Tottenham Hotspur announced that the club has extended the option of Son Heung-min's contract until the summer of 2026. At the press conference, head coach Angel Postecoglou expressed his great happiness.  

Son Heung-min joined the team in August 2015 and has become a superstar and one of the great players of Tottenham Hotspur during his time there. Son Heung-min has scored countless goals for the club, which are not only important but also memorable.  

He was appointed club captain by coach Ange Postecoglou in August 2023 to establish his position in the team. Ange Postecoglou said he was the ideal person to take on this responsibility, not only because of his status on the pitch, but also because of the respect he earned in the locker room.  

In September 2015, Son Heung-min made his debut at White Hart Lane and scored his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League against Qarabag. In April 2019, Son Heung-min scored his first goal for the team against Crystal Palace. After that, Son Heung-min scored his first goal in the Champions League in a world-class home game against Manchester City.  

The 2021-22 season is Son Heung-min's most goal-scoring season so far. He won the Premier League Golden Boot with 23 goals and helped the team return to the championship. Currently, Son Heung-min ranks among the top 20 scorers in the history of the Premier League with 125 goals, and is the second-highest scorer in Tottenham Hotspur.  

Son Heung-min scored his 68th goal of the season in a 5-0 win over Southampton, breaking the club's long-standing assist record in the Premier League.  

Ange Postecoglu was happy about Son Heung-min's contract extension and said: "This is great. Son Heung-min has had an outstanding career at Tottenham Hotspur. In the past 10 years, Son Heung-min has played an important role and he is very important to the club."  

"We are delighted to be able to extend Son's stay with us and our aim is to ensure that Son can win some silverware by the end of his Tottenham career."  

As the captain of the national team, Son Heung-min has played 131 times for South Korea so far and scored 51 goals. In addition, Son Heung-min also represented the national team in the 2014, 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.  

Son Heung-min has been named AFC Asian International Player of the Year four times, won a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games, and reached the final of the Asian Cup with South Korea in 2015.
