Chelsea coach Sonia Bompasto was delighted after they beat Manchester City 3-0 in the second leg of the UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final to advance to the semi-finals.
In the first leg of the quarter-final, Chelsea lost 0-2 to Manchester City. However, in the second leg, Chelsea successfully overtook the opponent on aggregate, which surprised everyone. In the press conference after the game, Bompasto said: "I allowed myself to enjoy this moment."
"In football, we put in a lot of hard work and sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn't. But tonight was a perfect night for us, coming back from behind at Stamford Bridge with our fans. I'm proud of my players."
"The importance of mental quality in the game is self-evident. Sometimes it even determines 70% to 80% of the game results. Tonight, we showed our belief and mental strength. We believed we could do it and finally achieved our goal."
“Our tactical plan was correct when preparing for this game. Of course, you can never be sure of the result before the game, but when we stepped onto the pitch, the players’ body language, mental state and confidence showed that we were ready for a win.”
"This game means a lot to us, not only for promotion, but also for the team's response and resilience in the face of difficulties."
The teams that advanced to the semi-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League are Chelsea, Arsenal, Lyon and Barcelona. Chelsea will challenge Barcelona away for the first leg of the semi-final on April 19.
