Former Tottenham Hotspur Kenya international defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama officially joined Dunfermlin on a free transfer..


Dunfermline announced on its official website on Friday that former Tottenham Hotspur Kenya international defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama has joined the club as a free agent after leaving Montreal Impact after his contract had expired.


According to Dunfermline's official statement, Wanyama has signed on a short-term contract with the club which will only run until the end of this season.


After completing his joining procedures, Wanyama, who was interviewed by the Scottish Championship club's official website for the first time, said: "My first challenge after coming here is to get the club back to where they should be. They are in a bad situation at the moment, so we must unite. Our challenge is to ensure safety, and this is what we are fighting for."


"I played at Dunfermline before and scored here. It was a tough game, and I remember the fans, they were great. I saw the enthusiasm of the fans. It was really great."


About Victor Wanyama


Wanyama, 33, was born on June 25, 1991 in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. He is 1.88 meters tall and primarily plays as a defensive midfielder. He can also play as a center back. His half-brother McDonald Mariga was also a former Kenya international striker. He played for Inter Milan and Parma during his playing career.


Wanyama played for the youth academy of the local Kenyan club Nairobi City Stars when he was a child. He joined the Helsingborg youth academy in 2007, but was released the following summer.


After leaving Helsingborg, Wanyama joined Beerschot as a free agent in the summer of 2008, and completed his Beerschot first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in August of the following year.

During his four-year spell at Impact, Wanyama played 133 times for the Major League Soccer (MLS) club in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing four assists, as well as reaching the Canadian Championship final once with the club.
