10-year Manchester City career comes to an end, De Bruyne announces that his contract will expire this summer

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne released a statement on Friday, announcing that he will leave the team when his contract expires this summer.

De Bruyne, 33, played for Genk, Chelsea, Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg before moving to Manchester City for 76 million euros in July 2015. He has played for Manchester City for 10 seasons, making 413 appearances, scoring 106 goals and providing 174 assists, winning 1 Champions League, 1 Club World Cup, 6 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, 5 English League Cups and 3 Community Shield titles.

De Bruyne's current contract with Manchester City will expire in two months. His public statement has completely ended the speculation about his future that has lasted for months. The full statement is as follows:

"Dear Manchester,

You may have guessed where this letter is going, so I will get straight to the point: the next few months will be my last as a Manchester City player.

It's not easy to write these words, but as professionals, we all knew this day would come. That day has come - and you deserve to hear it firsthand.

Football led me to you and this city. I came here with a dream, but I never expected that this time would completely change my life. This city, this club, these people... gave me everything. I had no choice but to give everything back! And guess what? We won everything.

Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye. Sully, Roma, Mason, Michelle and I are grateful for the city that has meant so much to our family. “Manchester” will forever be in the children’s passports – and more importantly, in each of our hearts.

This will always be our home.

We can’t express enough how grateful we are to this city, the club, the staff, our teammates, friends and family for having you all by our side for the past decade.

Every story has to end, but this is undoubtedly a wonderful chapter. Let us enjoy this last moment together!"
