Wesley Fofana has undergone successful surgery

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, the club have confirmed, after he underwent successful surgery.

The 24-year-old central defender had just returned from injury in early March after being sidelined for more than three months due to a similar injury. However, he was injured again this week and underwent surgery on Saturday.

Chelsea's official statement read: "The club can confirm that Wesley Fofana has today undergone successful hamstring surgery."

"This week, Fofana underwent a detailed assessment by a specialist who confirmed he had sustained a muscle injury. Following the assessment, the doctor determined that surgery was necessary to treat the injury."

"Fofana will be working with the club's medical team at Cobham training ground over the next few weeks to continue his recovery and rehabilitation."

Plagued by injuries, Fofana has only played 14 games for the Blues so far this season. His most recent appearance dates back to before the March international match day, when Chelsea lost 0-1 to Arsenal.
