West Ham United were knocked out of the FA Cup after losing 2-1 to Aston Villa, but manager Graham Potter praised the effort and attitude shown by his players in the match.
Before the game, West Ham United were already missing several key players, namely Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, Emerson Palmieri, Jean-Clair Todibo and Alphonse Areola. However, two more players of West Ham United were injured in the game.
Although West Ham United took the lead in the 9th minute of the game, Niklas Fellkrug was forced to leave the field in the 16th minute of the game due to a muscle strain. Another player, Clissoncio Somerville, also suffered the same problem and was substituted in the 46th minute of the second half.
In the post-match interview, Porter revealed their injuries, saying: "Nicklas doesn't look good, and obviously his performance when he was injured didn't look positive, so I don't have much hope for his injury."
"Clisson's injury is not as serious as it looks, but it's too early to say. It was more of a precautionary measure, he wanted to continue but we didn't think it was worth the risk."
After the team lost these two main players, West Ham United overtook them in the second half of the game. However, Potter did not blame the players for this, but praised their efforts.
Porter said: "After losing two main attackers, although the substitutes tried their best, our offense was still affected. This is football and we have to make adjustments."
"I can't fault the players in terms of effort and commitment. The work ethic of the players over the last two days has been fantastic and that's a positive sign for me. We just have to accept the defeat, learn from it and get ready for the next game."
