Brentford completes contract extension with Scotland international defender wonderkid Aaron Hickey..



Brentford announced on its official website on Sunday that the club has extended the contract of its Scotland international defender wonderkid Aaron Hickey.


According to Brentford's official statement, Hickey has signed on a new three-year contract with the club which will run until the summer of 2028, with an option to extend for a further year.


After completing his contract extension procedures, Hickey, who was interviewed by Brentford's official website again, said: "I am very happy to come here to play in the Premier League. This is a great club, the atmosphere in the stadium is incredible, and I really enjoy playing here."


"I am now focused on returning and playing with the team."


"Despite the injury, the club has been very loyal to me. I am very grateful for this. I now want to return to the court to repay the team."


"I will be back, and I will be back faster, stronger, healthier, and ready to do everything I can for the club."


About Aaron Hickey


Hickey, now only 22 years old, was born in Glasgow, Scotland on June 10, 2002. He is 1.85 meters tall and primarily plays as a right back. He can also play as a left back or left midfielder.


Hickey joined Hearts' youth academy at the age of 10, moved to Celtic's youth academy at the age of 14, returned to Hearts' youth academy at the age of 18, and completed his Hearts first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in May 2019.


During this spell, he quickly attracted the attention of big clubs such as Aston Villa, Bayern Munich, and Lyon with his outstanding performances, as well as reaching the Scottish Cup final once with the club.


In September of the following year, Hickey joined Bologna for £1.5 million, becoming the fifth player to play in Serie A in Scottish football history.


During his two-year spell with I Rossoblù, Hickey attracted the attention of Liverpool and his former club Celtic with his outstanding performances, won the Golden Boy Award once, and broke the record by becoming the first Scottish player to score 5 goals in a single season in Serie A since Liverpool legend Graeme Souness.


In July 2022, Hickey joined Brentford for £17 million.


Since becoming a member of the Bees, so far, Hickey has played 37 times for the Premier League club in all competitions and assisted once.
