Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius officially joins Schalke 04 on free transfer..

Schalke 04 announced on its official website on Tuesday that former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has joined the club as a free agent.

According to the 2. Bundesliga club's official statement, Karius has signed on a short-term deal with the club which will run until the end of the season.

After completing his joining procedures, Karius, who was interviewed by Schalke 04's official website for the first time, said: "The talks with the club's representatives went very well and I look forward to training with the team. Schalke 04 is a big club with very enthusiastic fans. I have felt this when I came here as a player before."

About Loris Karius

Loris Karius, 31, was born on June 22, 1993 in Biberach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. He is 1.89 meters tall and plays as a goalkeeper. He is handsome and is also an amateur model.

Karius played for Stuttgart's youth academy when he was young. Courtesy of his outstanding performances in the Germany U16s national team, Karius joined Manchester City's youth academy in July 2009.

In August 2011, Karius was loaned-out to Mainz to play for its reserve team. Later, Mainz officially bought out his ownership in January of the following year.

Karius completed his Mainz first-team debut in December 2012, and officially became the undisputed first choice goalkeeper in late 2013. During this spell, Karius was also selected as the second best goalkeeper of the year in 2016.

In May 2016, Karius joined Liverpool for £4.75 million.

After the departure of Belgium international goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, Karius officially became the first-team's undisputed first choice goalkeeper. However, because he often made unforced errors, and even suffered a concussion in the UEFA Champions League final in the 2017/18 season, during which he made two consecutive unforced errors, it eventually led to the Reds missing the opportunity to the title. Since then, Karius was abused.

After Alisson and Adrian joined the club in the summer of 2018 and 2019, and after the rise of Caoimhín Kelleher in 2020, Karius completely lost his position in the Reds squad.

During 2020 and 2021, he was loaned-out to Beşiktaş and Union Berlin, but Karius' performances did not improve much.

After the end of his loan spell, Karius returned to Liverpool and only served as the fourth substitute goalkeeper, and did not play all season.

After leaving the club at the end of his contract in September 2022, Karius moved to Newcastle United as a free agent.

However, during his two-year spell with the Magpies, Karius only played twice for the Premier League club in all competitions and conceded 6 times.
