Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim: We deserved this win

In the 21st round of the 2024-25 Premier League, Manchester United dramatically overtook Southampton 3-1. Coach Ruben Amorim believed that the team deserved the victory.

At the end of the game, Manchester United was trailing Southampton 0-1, but Amad Diallo scored a hat trick to help Manchester United win. In the press conference after the game, Amorim said about the team's performance: "We didn't perform well in this game."

"We had some problems, especially with the ball crossing the line, and the combination of the game was not as good as we should have been. We improved in the second half, especially in the last 30 minutes, I felt Southampton were very tired and suffered the pressure we put on them."

"They lost energy because of the man-to-man defense. The physical exhaustion weakened their strength. The most important thing is that at this moment, we won. I had a hunch that this game would be difficult, but in the end I felt that we deserved this victory."

When asked what Amorim said to the players in the half-time lounge, Amorim replied: "I said to understand the game, why we are at a disadvantage, and then explain in five minutes what we should do in the second half."

"I think in the second half Southampton started to tire. A little more time to find the ball and then find the spaces in between the pitch. The substitutes also helped us win the game."

Manchester United currently has 26 points in the Premier League, ranking 12th in the standings, 12 points behind Newcastle United, which is in 4th place. Manchester United's next Premier League game will be at home against Brighton on January 19.
