Official: 77-year-old Florentino will be re-elected as Real Madrid president until 2029

Real Madrid released the minutes of the election committee meeting, announcing that 77-year-old Florentino Perez was successfully re-elected as club president. His term will be extended for another four years until June 2029.

As the only candidate for the presidency, Florentino Perez's fifth re-election is a foregone conclusion. The election committee noted in the minutes: "Since there is only one candidate list for this election, in accordance with Article 40, Section E, Point 2 of the Club's Statutes, Mr. Florentino Perez Rodríguez is hereby declared the President of Real Madrid."

Florentino served as the president of Real Madrid from 2000 to 2006, and has been in charge of the club since 2009. Under his leadership, Real Madrid has won seven La Liga titles and seven Champions League titles.

At the resolution on Sunday, Real Madrid also confirmed the appointment of three new board members: Francisco García Sanz, Manuel Redondo Sierra and José Ángel Sanchez, all of whom will serve until 2029.

During Florentino's last term (2021-2025), the Real Madrid board lost two important members - first vice president Fernando Fernandez-Tapias and executive officer Raul Ronda. Although the club's statutes do not stipulate a minimum number of board members, Florentino still decided to absorb three new members to make the Real Madrid board younger.

Francisco García Sanz, 67, served as the vice president of global purchasing at Volkswagen Group for 17 years and enjoys a high reputation in the automotive industry. He also knows a lot about football, having served as the chairman of Wolfsburg from 2009 to 2018.

Manuel Redondo Sierra and José Ángel Sánchez have served as director of the Real Madrid presidential office and general manager for more than 20 years respectively, and have always been regarded as Florentino's right-hand men. After this appointment, the two will assume more responsibilities.
