T1 Esports Club announced that it has renewed its contract with mid laner Faker until 2029. This also means that this player, who is hailed as the greatest player in the history of League of Legends, will continue to play in the professional arena with T1 jersey until he is at least 33 years old.
Faker, 29, has been playing for T1 (formerly SK Telecom T1) since his debut in 2013, becoming the team's spiritual symbol. Over the years, there has been constant discussion about when he will retire and whether he will spend the rest of his life with T1 as a single player. This contract extension undoubtedly gives a firm answer.
After losing to DRX in the 2022 World Championship finals, Faker renewed his contract with T1 until 2025. In the following two years, he led the team to an epic rebound, winning the World Championship in 2023 and 2024, completing an unprecedented two consecutive championships and further elevating his legendary status.
In 2025, T1 performed brilliantly in MSI. Although they lost to Gen.G in the final, they took revenge in the LCK arena and ended the opponent's 27-game winning streak. At this highlight moment, T1 announced the renewal of Faker, which undoubtedly injected a stable core into the team.
Faker has been able to continue playing in part because he won honors for South Korea at the 2022 Asian Games and was exempted from military service. While most South Korean players retire before the age of 28, Faker has been able to continue his career without interruption.
It is worth noting that the contracts of the remaining members of T1 have not yet been finalized. The contracts of top laner Doran and ADC Gumayusi are until 2025, and jungler Oner and support Keria are until 2026. With Faker's contract renewal finalized, whether T1 will push for all members to renew their contracts remains the focus of fans.
