The Suns and the Jazz reached a 1-for-3 first-round pick deal to accumulate chips for the pursuit of Butler

The Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz have reached a draft pick trade, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Tuesday.

The specific content of the transaction is: the Suns will send the only tradable 2031 unprotected first-round pick to the Jazz in exchange for three protected first-round picks. They will get the lowest first-round pick of the Cavaliers or Timberwolves in 2025, the lowest first-round pick of the Cavaliers, Timberwolves or Jazz in 2027, and the lowest first-round pick of the Cavaliers, Timberwolves or Jazz in 2029.

The deal gives the Suns a more favorable bargaining chip in their pursuit of Jimmy Butler, who, at 35, had requested a trade from the Miami Heat earlier this month and listed the Suns as one of his preferred destinations.

The Suns are currently committed to upgrading their roster and have shown great interest in Butler. The premise for them to get Butler is to send Bill, who the Heat are not interested in, but the latter's market value has dropped significantly in recent years, and the remaining three years of his contract are $161 million.

Since it involves high-paid players such as Butler and Beal, this trade cannot be completed by only two teams. According to Forbes reporter Evan Sideri, this potential trade may involve the Heat, Suns, Bucks and a fourth team, which will eventually lead to Butler going to the Suns, Middleton joining the Heat, Beal being traded to the Bucks, and the fourth team receiving the balancing contract.
