Lazio beat Real Sociedad 3-1 to advance to the round of 16

Another battle was staged in the 7th round of the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League. Lazio, at home, relied on goals from Mario Gira, Mattia Zaccagani and Castellanos to finally defeat Real Sociedad from La Liga 3-1.

Five minutes into the game, Lazio's free kick was cleared, Castellanos headed the ball in the melee, and Mario Gira scored with a volley, helping Lazio get a dream start with a 1-0 lead. In the 14th minute, Lazio attacked with a corner kick, and Dia got the ball and shot hard over the defense, but the ball was blocked by the Real Sociedad goalkeeper.

In the 15th minute, Lazio continued to organize the attack. Castellanos' header in the penalty area was blocked by the opponent's players, and then Mario Gira's follow-up shot hit the post. In the 22nd minute, Real Sociedad tried to counterattack. Kubo Takefusa passed the ball, and Bryce Mendes received it and entered the penalty area to shoot, but the ball hit the post.
