Roma released a statement on Thursday announcing that 22-year-old Dutch defender Dewayne Lens has officially joined the club. Both parties signed a four-and-a-half-year contract until June 30, 2029.
Dwayne Lens was transferred from Ajax. His transfer fee is about 6 million euros and he will wear the No. 2 jersey in Rome.
At the same time, Ajax regrets the departure of Dwayne Lens. The club's technical director Alex Cross said: "Under the current circumstances, it is not an easy decision to let Dwayne go. As a youth player and an undoubted key player, we will definitely miss him very much."
"He is eager for a new challenge and now he has the opportunity to showcase his abilities in one of Europe's top leagues. We wish Dwayne all the best and hope he can be as successful in Italy as he is at Ajax."
Dwayne Lens joined Ajax's youth training at the age of 13 and made his debut for the first team in the Eredivisie on November 28, 2020. He mainly plays as a right back, but can also serve as a center back or left back as needed.
So far, Lens has made 156 appearances for Ajax, scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists, winning two Eredivisie titles and one Dutch Cup with the team. He also made his debut for the Dutch national team on September 7, 2021, and has made two appearances so far.
