Columbus Crew confirmed on Thursday that 32-year-old Portuguese midfielder André Gomes has joined the club on a free transfer. The contract runs until June 30, 2027, with the club having an option to extend it until the 2027/2028 season.

To begin his MLS campaign as soon as possible, Gomez even terminated his contract with Lille, which was originally set to expire this summer. He will occupy an international player slot at Columbus Crew, with an estimated monthly salary of €150,000.

Regarding the signing, Columbus Crew General Manager Issa Tal said: "André is a technically and tactically outstanding player who has demonstrated exceptional ability in top European leagues. His experience, leadership, and professionalism will strengthen our midfield and have a positive impact on the entire squad."

Gomes began his professional career at Portuguese powerhouse Benfica, and subsequently played for Valencia, Barcelona, Everton, Lille, and other clubs. To date, he has made 383 club appearances, scoring 32 goals and providing 29 assists, winning one Portuguese Primeira Liga title, one Portuguese Cup title, one Portuguese League Cup title, one La Liga title, two Copa del Rey titles, and one Spanish Super Cup title.

At the national team level, Gomez has made 29 appearances for Portugal to date. He has provided 5 assists and won the 2016 European Championship with the team.
