◤Bundesliga◢ Ridle Baku scores as RB Leipzig defeated Union Berlin by 3-1..

RB Leipzig defeated Union Berlin by 3-1 in on matchday 31 of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season at the Red Bull Arena on Friday.

In the first half, Finkgräfe scored with a long-range follow-up shot, and Rômulo added a one-on-one goal. In the second half, Baku scored with a close-range shot from a difficult angle. Before the final whistle, Doekhi's header, though deflected, still found the back of the net. Ultimately, RB Leipzig secured a 3-1 victory over Union Berlin. After this round of matches, Leipzig, on a five-game winning streak, sits in 3rd place with 62 points, taking another step closer to securing a Champions League spot; Die Eisernen are currently in 11th place with 32 points.

First Half

In the 9th minute, Yan Diomande passes horizontally from the right side of the box. Rômulo quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volley with his left foot from the center of the box, but his shot was saved by the outrushing Frederik Rønnow and then headed away by András Schäfer.

In the 22nd minute, Diomande dribbled into the right side of the box and took a right-footed shot from a difficult angle. His shot was initially parried by Rønnow, then headed and cleared off not far away by Leopold Querfeld. Max Finkgräfe quickly followed up and upon picking up the loose ball, and fired a long-range left-footed follow-up shot from just outside of the penalty area, which sent the ball flying straight into the bottom right corner of the net. RB Leipzig broke the deadlock and took an early 1-0 lead! This was the Germany U21s player's first goal since joining Leipzig from Köln!

4 minutes later, Leipzig launched a deadly quick counter-attack. Marten Vandevoordt delivered a long pass from his own penalty area. After beating the offside trap, Rômulo quickly followed-up, got the ball and dribbled into the center of the box before rounding the outrushing Rønnow slotting the ball into the empty net with his right-footed shot. RB Leipzig quickly extended their lead to 2-0! This was the Brazilian striker's 9th goal of the season!

In the 34th minute, Antonio Nusa crossed into the box from the left wing. Christoph Baumgartner rose high and attempted with a header, however his effort was parried away by Karl Klaus, hit the crossbar, and then bounced off! Leipzig almost scored again!

5 minutes later, Leipzig earned a corner opportunity. Finkgräfe took the corner by crossing it into the box. Baumgartner rose high and attempted with a header, however his effort was blocked by Christopher Trimmel and then saved by Klaus.

At halftime, RB Leipzig temporarily led Union Berlin by 2-0.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 49th minute, Ridle Baku made a straight pass from the attacking third. Assan Ouédraogo quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before volleying with his right foot from the center of the box, but his shot was saved by Klaus.

In the 63rd minute, Diomande passes horizontally from the right side of the box. Ridle Baku quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before volleying the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with his right foot shot from a difficult angle at a very close distance in the box, help sealing a 3-0 victory for RB Leipzig! This was Diomande's 22nd goal contribution of the season in all competitions!

15 minutes later, Union Berlin earned a deadly corner kick opportunity. Josip Juranović took the corner by crossing it into the box, where Danilho Doekhi rose high and scored with a header which ended up in the top right corner of the net despite his effort was initially parried by Vandevoordt, Union Berlin pulled a goal back at 3-1!

In the 81st minute, Conrad Harder passes horizontally from the left side of the box. Baumgartner quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, strucked the ball with his right foot from a very close distance in the box, but his shot was blocked off the line by Querfeld. Leipzig missed another golden opportunity to score again!

Shortly after, Leipzig earned a corner kick opportunity. Baumgartner took the corner by crossing it into the box. His pass was initially headed and cleared off not far away by Querfeld Johan Bakayoko quickly followed up and upon picking up the loose ball, took a left-footed follow-up shot from the right side of the box, but unfortunately, his shot struck the bottom left corner of the post and bounced off. Leipzig missed another golden opportunity to score again!

In the 89th minute, Union Berlin earned a corner kick opportunity. Rani Khedira took the corner by crossing it into the box. His pass was initially headed and off not far away by El Chadaille Bitshiabu. Aljoscha Kemlein quickly followed up andupon picking up the loose ball, took a right-footed follow-up shot from just outside of the penalty area, but his shot went wide of the left post.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Livan Burcu made a straight pass from the right flank. Ilyas Ansah quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the right side of the box before volleying the ball into the with into the bottom left corner of the net his left foot. However, the linesman immediately raised his flag for offside, and the goal was disallowed!

3 minutes later, Tidiam Gomis passes horizontally from near the midfield center circle. Bakayoko quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before striking the ball with his left foot from the center of the box, but his shot was saved by the outrushing Klaus.

When the final whistle is blown, RB Leipzig defeated Union Berlin by 3-1.
