Last weekend, in the match against Brighton, Tottenham defender Kevin Danso was dispossessed in the final moments of the game, leading to a last-minute equalizer for the opposition.
However, even more infuriating than the disappointing goal conceded was the extremely malicious racist online abuse Danso faced after the match. Faced with this unwarranted abuse, Danso did not choose to back down or compromise, but instead responded strongly through social media and official interviews.
On his personal social media platform, Danso first faced the loss in the match with composure: "Yesterday's result was not what we needed, but we gave it our all, and we will learn from it and move forward."
“Racist insults have no place in this sport or anywhere else. But that doesn’t define me, and it doesn’t distract me from what really matters. I know exactly who I am, what I represent, and why I play football.”
"Now, what we need to do is stay focused, work harder, and face the next game with even greater strength. We will continue to fight, stay true to our beliefs, and give our all every time we step onto that green field. Be stronger. Unite as one. Head to the next game."
Meanwhile, ahead of the crucial away game against Wolves, Danso gave an exclusive interview to the media, further revealing his thoughts. He admitted that seeing those malicious comments was indeed frustrating, but he firmly believes that any form of discrimination should be met with zero tolerance in the football world and indeed the world at large.
Danso stated that the racist tactics employed by some were completely unacceptable. While responding to the malice, Danso preferred to focus on the positive aspects. He expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and solidarity from fans, the club, and the entire football community following the incident.
