Simmons suffers a season-ending right knee injury and misses this summer's World Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur and Dutch national team midfielder Javier Simons has confirmed that his season has been cut short due to a serious right knee injury, and he will unfortunately miss this summer's World Cup.

In Tottenham's 1-0 away win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday, 23-year-old Simmons went down injured in the 63rd minute and was subsequently stretchered off the field. Initial diagnosis revealed a severe tear in his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Simmons later posted on social media, expressing his undisguised pain and frustration. He heartbrokenly admitted that life can be incredibly cruel at times: "My season has come to an abrupt end, and I'm still struggling to process it all."

"I wanted to continue fighting for the team, but that opportunity, along with my dream of representing the national team in the World Cup, has been ruthlessly taken away."

This injury is a significant loss for the Dutch national team. Since his debut in 2022, he has made 34 appearances for the country and was slated to be a key player under coach Ronald Koeman in his second World Cup campaign, but now he has missed that opportunity due to injury.

Meanwhile, this setback has further exacerbated Tottenham's already precarious relegation struggles. Tottenham have struggled in the league this season, currently sitting in 18th place with only 34 points, two points away from safety. Losing a key midfielder at this crucial relegation battle means Tottenham will face an extremely tough challenge in their upcoming schedule.
