In Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League, star player Mohamed Salah was substituted in the 59th minute due to a left hamstring injury.
Given that the Egyptian international has announced his departure at the end of the season, this unexpected injury has raised concerns that it may be his last match for Liverpool.
As he left the pitch, the 33-year-old Salah walked slowly, needing no assistance, but he made a point of turning around to applaud the fans on all four sides of Anfield Stadium. Since joining in 2017, Salah has scored a staggering 257 goals in 435 appearances, ranking third on the club's all-time top scorers list, and has led the team to win honors including the Premier League and the Champions League.
After the match, head coach Arne Slaughter responded to Salah's injury in an interview with several media outlets: "We all know how difficult it is to get Salah to ask to leave the field, which shows that there is indeed a problem, and we can only wait for the result."
When asked if Salah realized this might be his last game as a Liverpool player when he left the pitch, Sloot honestly replied: "Yes, judging from his expression when he left, the thought must have crossed his mind, after all, there are only a few weeks left in the season."
With only four weeks left in the season, Liverpool have four matches remaining: against Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Brentford. Regarding whether Salah will miss the rest of the fixtures, Sloot admitted, "We really don't know if he'll be fit for the rest of the games."
"But what I do know for sure about Salah is that he has been extremely disciplined and has maintained his body very well over the years. Therefore, it will definitely take him less time to recover from his injury than most people. Let's think on the bright side and hope that he can return to the field in the final stages of the season."
