Official: Cruyff Jr. officially takes up the post of technical advisor to the Indonesian Football Association

The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) officially announced on Tuesday that it has appointed Jordi Cruyff as a technical advisor. As for the specific term of Cruyff, it is still unknown.

According to the job arrangement, Cruyff Jr. is mainly responsible for training methods, grassroots construction, elite player professional development and technical system construction in the Indonesian Football Association, and provides technical support for the Indonesian national team coached by Patrick Kluivert.

The 51-year-old Cruyff is the son of Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff. He played for Barcelona, Manchester United, Celta, Alaves, Espanyol, Metalurh Donetsk and Valletta. He announced his retirement in July 2010 and subsequently served as the head coach of Tel Aviv Maccabi, Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic, Ecuador national team and Shenzhen team.

Cruyff Jr. also served as Barcelona's sports director for two years until his contract expired in June 2023. Since then, he has been unemployed and was once one of the candidates for the new head coach of the Chinese men's football team and Beijing Guoan.

It is understood that Cruyff Jr.'s arrival was due to the recommendation of the Indonesian coach Patrick Kluivert - the two had played together for the Dutch national team in the 1996 European Cup. In this regard, Eric Thohir, chairman of the Indonesian Football Association, said: "We are very honored to welcome Jordi Cruyff as the new technical advisor of PSSI. Patrick Kluivert and Jordi know each other, and I was very happy when he recommended Jordi. His experience as a player and coach will play an important role in building the future of Indonesian football."

"Frankly speaking, it is not easy to bring in a talent as good as Jordi. Therefore, we must give Jordi a lot of credit because he is very serious about promoting the development of Indonesian football."

Kluivert went on to add: "Jordi's arrival will be a huge boost to Indonesian football. I can't wait to work with him to strengthen Indonesian football and push Indonesian players to new heights."

Cruyff Jr. said: "I am very excited and can't wait to share my experience and knowledge to promote the development of Indonesian football. Indonesian football has a lot of talent. With the right structure and the right support, we can achieve great dreams on the world stage."
