Well-known esports tournament organizer PGL announced on Thursday that the 2025 PGL Bucharest European, North American and South American closed qualifiers will be postponed.
PGL is headquartered in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, and has hosted a number of Counter-Strike 2 (CSGO 2) and Dota 2 events since 2015. According to the original plan, PGL will hold a series of Counter-Strike 2 tournaments in Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest, Astana and Belgrade this year, with the Bucharest station tentatively scheduled to be held from April 6 to 13, 2025. As for the Bucharest station European and South American closed qualifiers, PGL originally planned to start on February 28. The North American and Asian qualifiers are scheduled for March 4 and 6 respectively.
According to the official statement of PGL, the reason for postponing the Bucharest qualifiers for Europe, North America and South America is to adjust the invitation mechanism: "We are optimizing the invitation process to ensure consistency and fairness for all teams. This adjustment is designed to better meet the requirements of event operations, so the qualifiers for Europe, South America and North America will be rescheduled. The latest schedule information will be announced on March 4."
The postponement has a wide impact, with a total of 32 European and North American teams and 31 South American teams affected. PGL publicly apologized to the affected teams: "We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused by this change. We will work hard to improve in the future to avoid similar mistakes from happening again."
