Werder Bremen announced on Monday that it has loaned Manchester City defender Issa Kaboré until June 30, 2025. According to Bild, Kaboré's loan contract does not include a buyout clause.
According to an official statement, Kaboré will wear the No. 29 jersey at Werder Bremen.
"Isa is a very exciting player," said Peter Niemeyer, Bremen's head of professional football. "Despite his young age, he has already gained a lot of experience in different leagues in several countries."
Niemeyer went on to point out that the loan was intended to fill the gap left by Olivier De Man's departure and Felix Agu's injury: "As Olivier De Man is about to leave on loan, Felix Agu will also leave on loan. We seized the opportunity at short notice to sign Issa on loan until the end of the season. He fits our needs perfectly, being flexible and able to play on both flanks. ”
“We wanted to ensure that we had a wide range of options for every position,” Niemeyer concluded. “We are very pleased to have been able to complete this loan at such short notice.”
Bremen coach Ole Werner was also satisfied with Kaboré's arrival. He said: "I am very happy that we were able to quickly bring in Issa in a short period of time. Issa has excellent skills, is strong and fast. His Joining us provides us with more tactical options. We believe he will fit perfectly into our team."
The 23-year-old Kaboré was born in Bobo-Dioulasso, the second largest city in Burkina Faso, and officially joined Manchester City in July 2020. He was subsequently loaned to Mechelen, Troyes, Marseille and Luton Town played a total of 53 Ligue 1 games, 28 Belgian A games, 24 Premier League games and 6 Champions League games during this period.
In September 2024, Kaboré joined Benfica on loan from Manchester City. However, he has only played 7 times in Benfica so far, 5 of which were as a substitute.
In order to get more playing time, Kaboré negotiated with Benfica to terminate the loan six months in advance and joined Werder Bremen. After completing the signing, he said: "I am very much looking forward to welcoming a new year in Werder Bremen and the Bundesliga. "I want to build on the great first half of the season and get to know the club, the fans and the city."
