The Los Angeles Clippers officially announced on Saturday that they have signed Tate Washington to a two-way contract. The news was first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania and subsequently confirmed by the official sources.
Washington signed a training camp contract with the Clippers this summer but was waived before the start of the NBA regular season on October 18. He then joined the Clippers' G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers, where he has played 16 games so far, averaging 19.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
With a two-way contract slot available, the Clippers are expected to part ways with 24-year-old Ray Dennis. Dennis is the Clippers' first point guard signed after waiving Chris Paul, and previously played 13 regular-season games for the Indiana Pacers, averaging 4.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.
Washington, 24, is a 6'6" (1.91m) guard weighing 88kg. He was drafted into the NBA in 2022 with the 29th overall pick in the first round. He previously played for the Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Phoenix Suns, appearing in 58 regular season games and averaging 3.3 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
After joining the Clippers, Washington will occupy one of their three two-way contract slots alongside Kobe Sanders and Jordan Miller, and will be eligible to play up to 31 regular season games. Following their three-game winning streak, the Clippers currently sit 13th in the Western Conference with a 9-21 record.
