Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca believes moments like the second-half against Bournemouth can help his side's development and stressed the need for players to show their personality and character.
The opening 45 minutes against Bournemouth were one of Chelsea's best halves of the season, but things were different in the second half, when Justin Kluivert's penalty changed the game and Chelsea's performance dropped.
Fortunately, Reece James pulled one back with a free-kick deep into injury time, but manager Enzo Maresca admitted that he and the team needed to assess why the team's performance dropped in the second half.
When asked if he was worried about a drop in performance in the second half, Enzo Maresca said: "I am always worried, but every game is different. In this game, after we conceded the penalty, something changed and our performance dropped a little, and these are the moments when the players have to show more of their character and personality.
"We need to understand why we lost after the penalty, but I am always worried and I am more worried when you don't create chances and we don't play well. When you create chances, we might have the chance to score.
Chelsea dominated the first half and created many chances. If it weren't for several great saves by goalkeeper Mark Travers, the team could have had at least 3 or 4 chances.
Enzo Maresca said: "First of all, we analyse the game and when you create chances, sometimes you are lucky. Sometimes you can score with one chance, but sometimes you need to create 10 chances to score.
"At the moment, it's difficult for us to score goals, but we have no trouble creating chances in every game. Hopefully we can be luckier in the future and have the chance to score goals."
When asked about his team's second-half performance, Enzo Maresca said: "Yes, it is an area we need to improve. In the second half against Crystal Palace we didn't concede too many goals. In the second half against Ipswich we didn't create too many chances, but against Bournemouth the chances were very clear.
"In summary, it's not normal for us to fall behind, so we need to understand the reasons and work hard to improve. For the players, they need to experience such moments and live in the present, and we will get better and better in the future."
