Georgia international winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's contract extension negotiations with Napoli have completely broken down..

Sky Sports' resident renowned Italian transfer journalist Nicolò Schira exclusively reported on Thursday that Georgia international winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's contract extension negotiations with Napoli have completely broken down.

According to Schira's report, Kvaratskhelia and Napoli have been actively negotiating a contract extension since November, but the negotiation process between both parties has not made any progress, and until this Monday, the relationship between the two sides has completely broken down.

With the breakdown of the relationship between the two sides, Kvaratskhelia has officially submitted a transfer request and asked to leave the club immediately during this winter transfer window.

Later, Schira's colleague Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the matter.

Romano added that the reason for the breakdown of the relationship between the both sides was mainly due to wage issues.

He revealed that although Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis was willing to give Kvaratskhelia a substantial wage increase, after comparing himself with other players, the latter found that he only still ranked 170th in the Serie A player wages list since coming to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

In the team, his wages is only the 19th highest paid player in the team, even lower than the Portugal international defender Mario Rui who was released in October 2024.

Coupled with the disgust of head coach Antonio Conte's defense-first tactical philosophy, this has intensified Kvaratskhelia's desire to leave the club as soon as possible.

Romano also said that Paris Saint-Germain has approached Napoli and Kvaratskhelia.

Le Parisiens has agreed to increase Kvaratskhelia's wages by five to six times, not including bonus and add-on clauses. If nothing unexpected happens, the Georgian star should reach an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain in the near future and sign a long-term five-and-a-half-year deal which runs until the summer of 2030.

The defending Ligue 1 champions is also expected to pay a transfer fee of 70 million to I Partenopei to sign Kvaratskhelia.

It is worth mentioning that Kvaratskhelia will also become the third player whose relationship with Napoli has reached a breaking point in two years after his former teammate, Nigeria international center forward Victor Osimhen and Rui.
