Cuomo officially announced on Sunday that former Tottenham star Dele Alli has joined the club as a free agent. The two parties signed a contract until June 30, 2026, with an additional one-year extension option.
Fabrizio Romano further revealed that the option will be automatically activated depending on Dele Alli’s appearances or availability.
Dele Alli has been unemployed since leaving Everton in July last year, and has only found a suitable next home now. The 28-year-old came from the Milton Keynes youth training. After joining Tottenham in 2015, he once became a representative figure of England's B2B midfield with his excellent physical fitness and impact.
Due to injuries and self-discipline problems, Ali gradually lost his core position in Tottenham. He then moved to Everton and Besiktas, but never recovered his peak performance.
So far, Ali has played 194 Premier League games, 26 Champions League games, 19 Europa League games and 4 UEFA Cup games for Tottenham and Everton, scoring 58 goals and providing 49 assists.
Last December, Alli was spotted training with Como. Como coach Cesc Fabregas spoke highly of Alli at the time: "He is training with us now. Dele feels good. He is an excellent player. We will be very happy if we can help him."
Now, Fabregas said after Ali completed the signing: "The club believes in Dele's potential and is committed to helping him return to his best form. His experience and leadership will undoubtedly help the team."
"With Dele's wealth of experience, Como 1907 expects his arrival to inspire and lead the team to new heights. The club is also looking forward to the positive impact he will bring both on and off the pitch."
The last time Ali played in an official match was against Antalyaspor on February 26, 2023, which is 327 days ago. Como officials said: "Our goal is to provide Dele with a good environment and let him gradually integrate into the team. The club has no direct requirements for Dele's performance, but believes that he will make important contributions on the court and become a mentor to the club's young talents, including Nico Paz, Aliou Fadela, Assane Dio, Maxson Cacare, Maxi Perrone and Lucas da Cunha."
