French esports club Gentle Mates is leaving the League of Legends (League of Legends) arena, Sheep Esports exclusively reported on Wednesday. Sources revealed the team has decided not to participate in the League of Legends (LFL) starting with the 2026 season.
Rumors of Gentle Mates' potential exit from League of Legends have been circulating for a while, fueled by public statements from co-founder Corentin Hussain (ID: Gotaga). Gotaga recently stated in a livestream that the club will "do everything in its power to stay in League of Legends," but acknowledged the challenges.
Gentle Mates ultimately decided to leave the League of Legends (League of Legends) scene, primarily due to the team's lack of breakthrough results. Although Gentle Mates had qualified for the EMEA Masters three times as third-place finishers in the League of Legends (LFL) competition since founding the team in December 2023, they had never reached the finals or won a major prize.
Sheep Esports further stated that Gentle Mates' move signifies a strategic shift towards FPS games like VALORANT and Counter-Strike. They have long excelled in VALORANT and recently secured a spot in the 2026 VCT EMEA League. Sheep Esports has also learned that Gentle Mates is considering joining the VCT Game Changers Series.
