Mainz 05 released an official announcement on Thursday, confirming that it has completed the contract extension with head coach Bo Henriksen. The new contract will be extended by one year on the original basis until June 30, 2027.
Bo Henriksen, 49, has coached teams such as Brunshoe, Horsens, Midtjylland, and Zurich FC, and is regarded as an outstanding representative of young Danish coaches. He has been in charge of Mainz since February 2024, and has led the team to 16 wins, 9 draws, and 9 losses so far.
For Mainz, Henriksen is the key figure in their return to the right track. Mainz was ranked second from the bottom in the Bundesliga when Henriksen took over, but at the end of the season, they successfully avoided relegation with 7 wins, 14 draws and 13 losses. This season, Mainz has won 10 games, 4 draws and 7 losses under Henriksen's leadership, and currently ranks sixth in the Bundesliga with 9 wins, 4 draws and 6 losses and 31 points.
After completing the contract extension, Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel said: "Bo Henriksen worked with Mainz 05 in the face of a difficult competitive situation last year and successfully responded to the challenge with a football style full of courage and conviction. Bo also used his positive and infectious personality to drive the club and the city forward together. He is a perfect fit for Mainz and we very much look forward to working with him in the long term."
Henriksen added: "From the first day, I realized that coaching Mainz was an extraordinary task. In Mainz, you are not only part of the club, but also part of the entire city. We can feel the enthusiasm, pride, trust and support of the fans in every corner of Mainz."
“It’s been wonderful to see our work bring joy to so many people. It’s been a crazy, exciting year – and I’m excited to continue working together for the next two and a half years.”
