Riot releases season update video in response to major changes to the League of Legends treasure chest system

Last Friday, Riot Games released a "Status Update" video about the current season and business model of League of Legends. In the video, League of Legends studio head Andrei Van Roon and executive producer Paul Bellezza discussed the gameplay adjustments for the current season and responded to players' controversy over Hexbox and skin mechanisms.

Hexboxes used to be an important way for players to get free skins. However, Riot quietly removed this system recently, causing dissatisfaction among players. In this developer update, Van Roon explained: "Free boxes have unexpectedly become the main way to unlock skins, and more and more players have obtained a large number of skins for free."

To fill the gap left by the removal of the Hextech Chest system, Riot plans to make improvements to the battle pass, making it the main way for players to obtain skins.

Currently, the background of the first season of League of Legends is set in Noxus, an empire that prioritizes expansion and power, and hides a mysterious magical force. Overall, players have given good feedback on this more story-based season structure, especially the content of the game involving Noxus background events such as the "Black Rose Council" ball.

In the upcoming Act 2, the Noxus theme content will continue to expand, including the return of the arena mode. The new arena map will be set in the Noxus "Court of Judgment" - an arena where prisoners and gladiators fight for glory. The competitive mode will also introduce the "Fame" system, where players can gain rankings through continuous participation, and famous Noxus warriors will also make cameo appearances in the game.

After the Noxus season ends, Riot plans to change the style in Season 2, using a more relaxed theme as a "change". Although the official did not reveal specific information, they hinted that the theme of the next season may involve Bandle City or Bilgewater. The specific launch date of Season 2 is still to be announced, and the content of the second half of the Noxus season is also yet to be revealed.
