The Hornets waived guard Isaiah Wang, who averaged 6 points per game this season, and became a free agent

On February 14, the Charlotte Hornets officially announced that they had waived guard IsaiahWang . The player had previously signed a two-way contract with the Hornets and played in 20 NBA regular season games this season ,averaging6.0 points,1.6 reboundsand 1.4assists per game.

Although he scored a career-high 17 points against the Detroit Pistons on February 10 , showing good offensive ability , the Hornets are in a rebuilding period and did not include him in their future plans. With the waiver, he will become a free agent and is expected to look for new opportunities .

The Hornets signed Isaiah Wang in December 2024 and had him play back and forth between the team and the Greensboro Swarm of the Development League. Judging from the statistics, his performance in the NBA was quite satisfactory, averaging 13.3 minutes per game, 6.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists. In the six games of the G League, his statistics were even more impressive, averaging 16 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.8 steals per game, showing a more comprehensive ability.

However, Isaiah Wang's stability has always been a problem. Although he can occasionally play a brilliant performance in the game, his shooting selection, organizational ability and defensive contribution in the NBA-level confrontation have not reached the standard of a stable rotation player. Therefore, he became the object of abandonment in the process of the Hornets adjusting the lineup.

Although he failed to gain a foothold in the Hornets, Isaiah Wang still showed some offensive ability in a limited time. On February 10, against the Detroit Pistons, he came off the bench and shot 6 of 9, efficiently scoring 17 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal, setting a new record for his highest single-game score in his NBA career. This game also proved that he has the potential to contribute firepower in NBA-level games.

However, the outstanding performance in this game did not change the decision of the Hornets management. With the overall direction of the team more inclined to cultivate more potential young players, Isaiah Wang failed to enter the long-term plan.

After being cut, Isaiah Wang will become a free agent, and his future destination is still unknown. Considering his decent performance in the G League and his offensive explosiveness, some NBA teams that need backcourt depth may consider giving him a 10-day contract or letting him join other teams on a two-way contract to continue his development. In addition, overseas leagues or development league teams are also potential options for him in the future.

For Isaiah Wang, the key is how to improve his stability and defensive ability. If he can show a more comprehensive game ability in future opportunities, he still has the possibility of returning to the NBA stage and continuing his career.
