Brentford announced on their official website on Friday that they have extended the contract of its Iceland international goalkeeper Hákon Valdimarsson.
According to Brentford's official statement, Valdirmasson has signed on a new four-year deal which runs until the summer of 2030, with an option to extend for another two years.
After completing his contract extension, Valdimasson, who was interviewed by the Brentford official website again, said: "I'm very happy to have completed the extension. The past two and a half years have been really good for me. I've learned a lot and grown a lot. As a goalkeeper, I've improved in every aspect."
"I'm very happy here, and I've really enjoyed my time here since Keith Andrews (head coach) took over. I talk to him a lot; he's a very good coach and a very good person."
About Hákon Valdimarsson
The 24-year-old Valdimarsson was born on October 13, 2001, in Reykjavik, Iceland. He is 1.93 meters tall and plays as a goalkeeper.
Valdimarsson joined the youth academy of his hometown club at a young age. In 2015, he moved to Grotta's youth academy and completed his Grotta first-team debut in September 2017 at the age of 15.
During his three-and-a-half-year spell at Grotta, Valdimarsson won the Icelandic First Division title with the team.
In July 2021, Valdirmasson joined Elfsborg for €10,000.
During his three-and-a-half-year spell at Elfsborg, Valdimarsson's outstanding performances earned him the 2023 Swedish Allsvenskan Goalkeeper of the Year award.
In late January 2024, Valdimarsson joined Brentford for £2.6 million.
Since joining the Bees, Valdimarsson has made 12 appearances for the Premier League dark horse in all competitions, conceding 10 goals and keeping 6 clean sheets.
