FC Cincinnati announced on its official website on Tuesday that former Liverpool youth player, Australia international left-wing back Brad Smith has joined the club as a free agent.
According to FC Cincinnati's official statement, Smith has signed on a short-term contract with the club which will only run until the end of this season, with an option to extend for a further year.
After completing his joining procedures, Smith, who was interviewed by the FC Cincinnati official website for the first time, said: "I am very happy to join FC Cincinnati. I am very grateful to the club and the staff for giving me this opportunity."
"From the moment I arrived, I felt that this is a great team. They have ambitious goals this year, and I am very happy to be a part of it. I can't wait to play at TQL Stadium and meet the fans for the first time."
About Brad Smith
Smith, 30, was born in Penrith, Australia on April 9, 1994. He is 1.78 meters tall and primarily plays as a left-wing back. He can also play as a left midfielder. He has dual citizenship of Australia and England and also holds a US green card.
Smith joined Liverpool's famous Kirkby youth academy at the age of 14, and completed his Liverpool first-team debut coming on as a substitute on December 29, 2013.
In August of the following year, Smith was loaned-out to Swindon Town to gain match experience.
After returning to the club following his loan spell in 2015, Smith officially became a squad member of the first-team of the Premier League giants. Despite his good performances, Smith was often only arranged to sit on the bench due to contract disputes.
In July of the following year, Smith moved to Bournemouth for £3 million.
During his time at the Cherries, Smith only got a few opportunities to play due to fierce competition for positions.
In August 2018, Smith was loaned-out to Seattle Sounders for a-year-and-a-half. During this spell, he won the Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup with the club, breaking the record and becoming the first Australian player to win the cup.
In January 2020, Smith was loaned-out to Cardiff City.
In September of the same year, Smith returned to the Seattle Sounders as a free agent.
In January 2022, Smith was traded to D.C. United for $750,000. After leaving the club when his contract had expired in January of the following year, Smith moved to Houston Dynamo as a free agent.
During his time with Houston Dynamo, Smith played 52 times for the MLS club in all competitions, scoring 3 goals, assisting 4 times, and won the U.S. Open Cup once with the team.
