Brighton and Daejeon Hana Citizen has reached an agreement on the transfer of South Korea U21s international winger wonderkid Yoon Do-young..

The Athletic's resident renowned English Brighton team correspondent Andy Naylor, exclusively reported on Thursday that club has reached an agreement with Daejeon Hana Citizen on the transfer of the latter's South Korea U21s international winger wonderkid Yoon Do-young.

According to Naylor's report, Brighton has agreed to pay and trigger the £3 million release clause in Yoon Do-young's original contract. The player has no objection to joining the Seagulls. Yoon Do-young will fly to Brighton on Monday (March 24) to complete his medical and sign his contract.

After completing his signing, Yoon Do-young is likely to be loaned-out to Brighton's feeder club Union St. Gilloise to adapt to the rhythm of the European leagues before being recalled to the first-team, just like the team's Japan international winger Kaoru Mitoma.

Since Brighton had rejected Al-Nassr's £61 million offer for Mitoma in January, Yoon Do-young's arrival was seen as the Seagulls preparing for the Samurai Blue star leave the club this summer.

In any case, Naylor revealed that even if Mitoma did not leave the club in the end, the Premier League dark horse had already planned to continue to expand its Asian market to discover the next Asian star.

About Yoon Do-young

Yoon Do-young, who is only 18 years old, was born on October 28, 2006 in Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. He is 1.73 meters tall and primarily plays as a right winger. He can also be an attacking midfielder.

Yoon Do-young was already a member of his school team when he was in elementary school. At the age of 15, he joined the Daejeon Hana Citizen youth academy and won several youth-level leagues with the team during this spell.

In May 2024, Yoon Do-young completed his Daejeon Hana Citizen first-team debut, and scored his debut first-team goal in his career four months later, becoming the third high school student to score in the K League 1 that year after Yang Min-hyeok and Kang Ju-hyeok.

Since his debut, Yoon Do-young has played 23 times for the K League 1  club in all competitions so far, scoring 1 goal, assisting 3 times, and was selected for the 2024 K League All-Star lineup.
