Tyrese Maxey out for the season due to recurrence of old finger injury

The Philadelphia 76ers announced that guard Tyrese Maxey will miss the rest of the season with a recurrence of an old injury in a finger on his right hand that caused pain and swelling.

Maxey has been troubled by back problems this season and has not played since the Philadelphia 76ers lost to the Portland Trail Blazers on March 3. Maxey was originally ready to return, but the latest MRI results confirmed a recurrence of the injury to his right hand finger, which eventually forced him to end the season early.

The 24-year-old Maxey was initially expected to be a lottery pick, but he was not selected in the 2020 NBA Draft until he was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 21st pick. However, Maxey did not disappoint the Philadelphia 76ers.

Although Maxey missed several games this season due to injury, he played in 52 games, all of which were starts, averaging a career-high 26.3 points, 6.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game. In the 2023-24 season, Maxey was selected to the All-Star team for the first time and won the "NBA Most Improved Player of the Year" award.

In addition to Maxey's absence, the core players of the Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid and Paul George, were unable to play due to injuries. The injuries led to the Philadelphia 76ers' poor record this season, with only 23 wins and 56 losses, and officially missed the playoffs.
