Dennis Irwin believes poor signings are Manchester United's biggest problem

In Sir Alex Ferguson's farewell speech, the legendary manager called on fans to support his successor and mentioned the patience he had received during challenging times. However, Manchester United has experienced a turbulent decade since then: six permanent managers, two chief executives and more than a billion pounds spent in the transfer market, but they have never returned to the top.
The Red Devils have yet to win the Premier League title since Ferguson left. This season, Manchester United's performance in the Premier League is even considered one of the worst starts in modern history. They suffered six defeats in the first 12 home league games, tying the worst record in the 1893-94 season. In addition, the team has lost 10 of its 22 league games, the first time since the 1989-90 season that it has reached double-digit losses so early.
Dennis Irwin believes poor signings are the key reason Manchester United have failed to regain their former glory.
In an interview with Stick to Football, Irwin admitted: "It was a very difficult decade (after Sir Alex Ferguson left). Everyone knew there would be a difficult transition period after Ferguson left. They tried a lot of experienced coaches - including Solskjaer - who seemed to be able to bring about some changes, but the light of hope always went out quickly.
"They've won some cups, like Liverpool did in their quiet period, but over the last 10 years, the league has been far from competitive. That takes time. I've said before that it all comes down to the players. The manager can organise the team, he likes the 4-3-3 formation, but it's the quality of the players that counts. You can't say United's signings over the last 10 years have been successful - that's the biggest problem."
Despite the difficulties in the league, Manchester United will hope to carry the momentum from their Europa League win over Rangers into Sunday's game against Fulham. This thrilling win gave fans some hope, but the team still faces great pressure to show consistency and deliver convincing performances in the next games.
