Enzo Maresca regrets Chelsea's FA Cup exit

In the fourth round of the 2024-25 FA Cup, Chelsea lost 1-2 to Brighton and was eliminated. Coach Enzo Maresca expressed regret.

In the first 5 minutes of the game, Brighton goalkeeper Bart Februhen scored an own goal, allowing Chel to take the lead by one point. However, goals from Giorginio Rutter and Kaoru Mitoma helped Brighton win 2-1.

Chelsea could only stop there. In the post-match interview, Maresca said about the result of the game: "There is no doubt that this defeat is regrettable. But we need to learn how to win the game with a score of 1-0. I have said it many times."

"In the last game against West Ham we came back from a deficit to win 2-1. That's part of the season, that's how football works, sometimes you come back and sometimes the result is like tonight."

"I told the players a few weeks ago and I said it again tonight. As a team we have to learn to win 1-0, that's how the top teams are supposed to do it."

Although the game was lost, Maresca was satisfied with the players' performance, but it was a pity that they missed opportunities. Maresca said: "We started well and the opponent scored with the only shot on target in the first half. We controlled the game and created some opportunities."

"It was similar in the second half, with the second goal probably being their only other shot on target in the whole game. We had a couple of chances to equalise after we conceded the second goal but we didn't take them.
