Arteta regrets Arsenal missing out on Carabao Cup final

Arsenal lost 0-4 to Newcastle United on aggregate and missed out on a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, which coach Mikel Arteta expressed regret about.

The Carabao Cup is an extremely important competition for Arsenal fans, but this is the first time in seven years that Arsenal have not reached the final of the tournament. In the post-match interview, Arteta said: "I am very disappointed that we failed to reach the Wembley final, and in this way."

“We had hope and belief that we could create momentum in the game and stay in the competition. We had two moments in the first half when it could have been different if we had scored. But the ball went the other way and they scored, and then it became more difficult.”

"We never got that goal that would have given us some belief and created some expectation and momentum in the team, and then slowly the game started to get out of our hands. When we conceded the second goal it was really tough.

"We are really hurt now. We really wanted to lead the team and the club to a Wembley final again and we worked so hard for it but unfortunately we failed to achieve this goal. I think we need to digest this defeat first because it is a painful experience and we will start to recharge tomorrow."

Arsenal missed the Carabao Cup and will now focus on the Premier League. Arsenal currently has 50 points in the Premier League, ranking second, 6 points behind Liverpool. Arsenal's next Premier League game will be on February 15, away to Leicester City.
