David Ornstein confirms that Chelsea has reached an agreement to sign Sporting Clube de Portugal winger wonderkid Geovany Quenda..

The Athletic's resident renowned English transfer journalist David Ornstein, reported on Friday that Chelsea and Sporting Clube de Portugal have reached an agreement on the transfer of the latter's Portugal U21s international winger Geovany Quenda.

According to Ornstein's report, Quenda has agreed and has signed on a long-term 7-year deal with Chelsea which runs until the summer of 2033, with an option to extend for a further year. Quenda will temporarily continue to play for Sporting CP until the summer transfer window opens in 2026 before officially becoming a member of Chelsea.

He also added that since Quenda, Ecuadorian wonderkid Kendry Paez and Brazilian wonderkid Willian Estêvão are all among the wingers who are about to join Chelsea, the Blues may have doubts about the transfer agreement to obligated to buy out the ownership of England international winger Jadon Sancho, who is currently on-loan at the club, after the end of this season.

Ornstein said that when Chelsea signed Sancho on loan, his original club Manchester United had already stipulated that if Chelsea finished higher than 14th on the Premier League table this season, the Blues would have to automatically buy out the former Dortmund and Manchester City winger.

However, because Quenda will also become a new Chelsea player, as well as including the aforementioned Paez and Estêvão, the Blues have recently signed more than 5 new winger wonderkids, and even plan to continue signing more players in this position, hence they suddenly want to stop fulfilling the obligation to automatically buy out Sancho's ownership.

Currently, Chelsea has officially started negotiations with Manchester United on this matter. The former hopes to compensate more loan fees to offset the breach of contract fees for violating the commitment to automatically buy out Sancho's ownership, but Manchester United has not yet responded to this offer.

In addition, Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, also confirmed this matter through the official YouTube video he uploaded afterwards.

He said that he was in Milan talking to his friend Matteo Moretto about some insider transfer news when they returned home after a full day of work and received a text message from Ornstein and local Portuguese journalists informing them that Quenda had agreed to join Chelsea.

Romano revealed that after receiving Ornstein's text message, he immediately contacted local Portuguese journalists for information, and finally got Quenda's agent Jorge Mendes to confirm the matter at 4 a.m. local time.

He said, Chelsea immediately approached Sporting CP, Mendes and Quenda himself as soon as the second leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16s knockout stage match against Copenhagen on Thursday night ended, and the four parties reached an agreement within a few hours that night.

The Premier League giants will pay Sporting CP a transfer fee of €51 million to sign Quenda, which does not include bonus and add-on clauses. Chelsea has even sent club officials to Portugal and have completed medicals with Quenda.

Romano also revealed that Manchester United was also determined to sign Qeunda.

He said that after the appointment of head coach Ruben Amorim, the latter had repeatedly instructed scouts to closely monitor Quenda's match performances in preparation for making an offer after the summer transfer window opens in July, but later because the Red Devils might violate the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), this plan was forced to be temporarily shelved, but Manchester United and Amorim himself never gave up on signing Quenda.

He also believed that Chelsea's move of "catching the opponent off guard" this time would make Amorim and the Red Devils feel extremely surprised.
